On the west bank of Nile, 305 km upriver from Philae. Perched on a bluff well above the Nile floodplain, this was the only definitely attested monastery in Lower Nubia. It appears to have been founded at the very beginning of the Christian period, with occupation continuing into Late Christian I times. Excavated by the Oriental Institute of Chicago in 1964 and 1965.
