Permissions

Browne Unpublished is a leather-bound hand-written manuscript by Gerald M. Browne entitled Old Nubian Literary Texts dated 1 August 2004. It was deposited in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library of the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign, Browne's home institution. Its contents include re-editions of all Old Nubian literary texts known to Browne. Digital images of the manuscript were obtained for study by Giovanni Ruffini. Items 1-15 appear in the manuscript in the same order in which they appear in Browne 1989a, Literary Texts in Old Nubian. Browne's marginalia to 1989a include a note to add items 16-24 below, and also indicate that he considered adding "SPG," an item not included in this manuscript. I have not yet been able to determine what text that abbreviation refers to.

GO reports: I've just talked on the phone with Mr. Tomasz Gorecki from the Museum (you possibly met him while in Warsaw) and he promised to ask around, as the journal itself is either suspended or even discontinued. He believes that he copyright may have reverted to the author, but on his recommendation I have written to dr. Agnieszka Morawinska on 3/1/11; having received no reply, I emailed Tomasz Gorecki on 5/18/11. Email from Morawinska's assistant Agnieszka Gizinska received on 6/17/11 indicating that the Museum no longer has any standing to give permission.
