Translation quoted from G. Ruffini, The Bishop, The Eparch and The King: Old Nubian Texts from Qasr Ibrim IV (P.QI 4) [= JJP Supplements], Warsaw 2014 with permission from the editors of the JJP.

Asouwl, eparch of Nobadia, to Ampapi the Great Eparch.

I pay homage to your lordship. Because Mowoni’s shield bearers (?) were unable to come and be a comfort to Ourti, and because the son of the elder wrote a letter to me, praising them, I went to Kaktine North. May God increase your years. Ourti was near. They were definitely coming to Kaka Valley when they came. Come near to Mousoul. Alekon-Ngal, Iesou being eparch, informed on (?) the [uncertain word] of the meizoteros to King Dauti. He, Iesou being eparch, informed on Samil’s daughter to King Dauti. He also informed on your people. He will do it, replacing (?) the eparch’s deputy in the north. May he worry that I will trample him! He is taking it. I will not think about it (?). And the slave who was [unknown verbing] one had a horse. And I took it, deceiving him. Mowoni through Asa’s Dianngal complete the transaction (?) for 1 camel, and will be having it (?). ...for me the slave’s (?) [one line untranslated] and, coming, may you learn about it. May God increase your years. Therefore, you heard [incomplete term or phrase] being far away. Having been bound to the [unknown word], write a letter to my people. And giving it to me in the northern high-ground, you will have it. It is not an empty letter, but one giving (?) 3 pousi. I, Papasa, the chartoularios notarios, pay homage to your glorious lordship, blessed by God. I pay homage to your brotherhood, the epidiakonos of Tonk().
