New page

A fortified settlement on the west bank of the Nile, 214 km upriver from Philae. The regularity of plan, both of the fortification and the houses and streets, was reminiscient of [[Ikhmindi]], though the remains were not so well preserved. Like other Lower Nubian fortified sites, it was probably built at the beginning of the Christian period, if not earlier, but presence of glazed pottery indicates continued occupation into Late Christian times. The site was excavated in 1962 and 1962 by an expedition from the Spanish Committee for UNESCO.
